This study aims to examine and compare the dramaturgy and the reception of Lessing's and C.F.Weisse's comedies. Lessing improved the characterization influenced by Diderot. His comedies appeal to audiences’reason. The structure of "Minna von Barnhelm" is calculated and elaborate. Weisse adapted popular topics in his dramas, in which virtue and charity are praised. He wrote many short comedies for children with easy episodes and music. Financial assistance of friends, philanthropy and Divine Providence are common themes in their comedies, such as Lessing's "Der Freigeist"(1749),"Minna von Barnhelm"(1767), Weisse's "Amalia"(1765), "Die kleine Aehrenleserinn”(1777) and "Gute Kinder der Aeltern groesster Reichtum"(1780).
In order to stage Lessing's comedies, Mrs. Neuber, Ekhof, Ackermann etc. made strenuous efforts at the reform of theatrical performances, which improved the status of the actors. Ekhof valued Weisse's "Matrone von Ephesus" and Kotzebue made it part of his repertoire.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
本研究はドイツ啓蒙時代後期を代表するレッシングとC.F.ヴァイセの喜劇の魅力を、作劇法と同時代における受容の観点から分析した。レッシングは文学・演劇史で重視される劇作家だが、ヴァイセこそ当時の人気作家であった。数多いレッシングの草稿喜劇は周到な準備と推敲の跡を示す。ヴァイセは官吏の仕事の合間に執筆し、流行に乗った喜劇を量産して大衆の人気を博した。
レッシングには古典喜劇の高い評価が与えられている一方、ヴァイセの喜劇は忘れ去られてきた。後者も博愛精神や感傷的で感動させる喜劇や先駆的な児童演劇によって啓蒙時代の観客の心をつかんでいたことを確かめることができた。論文と翻訳書が成果の一端である。
