Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In AY2023, the project had a no-cost extension to finalize ongoing research activities: 5 presentations, 3 proceedings papers and a journal paper appeared. For Japanese part of the project, our findings on Japanese particles in a presentation titled "Accented and Unaccented postpositions in Japanese" in May 2023. Our data on focus construction was presented as "Prosody of corrective focus in Japanese complex DPs", and a modified variety of speech was explored in the "Segmental and suprasegmental modification in Rakugo-style Japanese Form of presentation" in August 2023. The Swahili part of the project on tu was presented as "Prosodic prominence of Swahili TU in polar interrogatives" in August 2023. In November 2023, "Variable pitch accent and prosodic phrasing in Japanese adjectival complex DPs" reported on the puzzle related to prosodic phrasing in Japanese DPs. In March 2024, "The interface between prosody and syntax in double object constructions in Xitsonga and other Bantu languages" was an invited talk at the Linguistics Colloquium at Seoul National University. Publications also appeared. With Riedel, we published "Recursivity and Focus in the Prosody of Xitsonga DPs" in June 2023. Proceedings papers "Segmental and suprasegmental modification in Rakugo-style Japanese Form of presentation", "Prosodic prominence of Swahili TU in polar interrogatives", and "Prosody of corrective focus in Japanese complex DPs" were published in August 2023. We are expecting a presentation at the laboratory phonology conference and papers on Swahili and Xitsonga in June 2024.
