Outline of Final Research Achievements

The purpose of this study is to clarify the structure of voice over, so called "narration" and utilize its characteristics to create teaching materials for Japanese language education, verifying their effectiveness. Analysis of the characteristics of voice over involved having professional voice actors and announcers read the same script, measuring the total duration, and identifying causes of differences such as vowel length and pauses. Based on these results, some materials of voice over for learners were developed. To ensure accessibility for many Japanese language teachers, a website was created where teachers can access these materials. Links to voice samples by voice over actors are also provided on the website.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

日本語教師は、常に教材を求めているが、とくに音声に関する教材はレベル別や母語別で発音の困難な点が異なるということと、音声の指導は得意ではないと感じている日本語教師が多いということで、注目されることが多い。本研究は、語の発音の練習だけではなく、一定の長さのある表現力を習得するために、会話ではなく、内容にも重点を置いた原稿を、プロのナレーターが読んだものを教材としている。既習語彙にはとらわれず、内容に重点を置いた教材を作成したので、日本語教育への貢献度は高いと確信する。また、大学の日本語学の専門科目としてもカリキュラムに取り入れることができたのは大きな進歩であった。
