For this four-year investigation, I interviewed 20 professors working in Japan, transcribed 30 hours of interview data, and identified common themes and unique aspects across institutions for professors teaching critical thinking in EMI contexts in Japanese universities. This study is important because it addresses issues teachers experienced teaching critical thinking through exploring the institutional constraints and affordances and the classroom and curriculum aspects from the teachers’ perspectives. I published a peer-reviewed research article in a Q1 journal and have made more than a dozen academic presentations and invited lectures since the COVID-19 travel bans were lifted in 2022. Multiple papers are currently under peer review and several presentations are scheduled for 2024.
