Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
No articles were published in 2022 that were related to this project. However, the 2 articles published in 2021 have together shown the possibility of identification with role models in an online environment, in accordance with the original proposal. In "Effects of the Internalization of Peer-Modeled Self-efficacy on Coping with L2 Communication Stress", a major result was the detailing of the importance of peer modeling on L2 motivation. Capable role models demonstrate coping strategies and self efficacy (similar to self-confidence). Students learn from these role models and adapt their own behaviours in an attempt to become better English speakers. This 2021 article detailed the identification and behavioural changes process by using microanalysis. The article also showed that student ideal L2 selves may be greatly affected by effective role models.
The other 2021 article did not deal with identification or role models but did show how a positive, supportive online environment is essential to student motivation in online classes.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
The final article to be published is in preparation. The literature review is finished and I am currently writing the methodology section. I will be able to finish the article by the end of the summer and submit it for publication this fall.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
I plan to submit the final article to the Kitami Institute of Technology's journal titled "Studies of Human Science" and it will be published next year. It will be widely disseminated by the university and I will upload it to ResearchGate as well. The two articles from 2021 are both available in ResearchGate as well.
|
Causes of Carryover |
I plan to use the remaining funds to attend conferences and share my results by making presentations and networking. I will attend JALTCALL in June and the national JALT conference in November.
