Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Two online exchanges were carried out last year: one in the spring semester and one in the fall semester. Zoom was used for both. In the spring, the graduate students of my Intercultural Understanding Pedagogy course participated in the exchanges among themselves because we had a naturally occurring heterogeneous group of students: Malaysian, mainland Chinese, and Japanese. The results of that online exchange project have been written up and the manuscript will be submitted for publication in an international peer-reviewed journal soon. In the fall, I led a "zemi" of undergraduates in the Faculty of Integrated Human Studies. Two Japanese and two mainland Chinese participated in the intercultural online exchange on Zoom. The data will be analyzed soon for publication. I did not have the opportunity to engage in online intercultural exchanges with my co-researchers from abroad because they were distracted by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, I could complete the research at Kyoto University just as well.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
Although I could not collaborate with my international colleagues due to complications involving the COVID-19 pandemic, I could collect data locally at Kyoto University with nationally heterogeneous groups of students.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
This year I plan to collaborate with my colleagues abroad and engage in intercultural online exchanges for transcultural mutual understanding with students in my graduate course and the Faculty of Integrated Human Studies "zemi" in the spring semester.
|
Causes of Carryover |
Due to COVID-19 constrictions, I could not travel to conferences or invite collaborators from abroad.
Next year, if possible, I plan to use the budget to make presentations at international conferences.
