Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The three types of writing practice treatments were administered and the data was gathered from participants during the fall semester of 2020. The writing practice treatments (sentence-combining, translation, timed-writing) were given separately to three groups of participants twice a week for 15 weeks. Data for quantitative analysis (writing samples) was gathered at three points during the semester from all participants. Two participants from each group were selected to participate in interviews. Data for qualitative analysis (interviews) was gathered twice during the semester from five participants.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
The project was delayed from April 2020 to October 2020 due to the sudden changes caused by the outbreak of covid-19. In April 2020, classes were suddenly moved online, and it was difficult to change and administer the materials for the treatments in an online environment. Therefore, it was decided to wait until October 2020 to begin the treatment and gather data.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
The data is currently being analyzed with the goal of completing the initial analysis by July 2021. The quantitative data (writing samples) is being analyzed for Complexity, Accuracy, and Fluency (CAF). Once those measures have been established, they will be analyzed with statistical software to examine changes. The qualitative data (interviews) is being transcribed and coded for themes. Once the themes have been established, they will be analyzed in conjunction with the statistical data.
