Outline of Annual Research Achievements

We completed purchase of equipment and reference materials in preparation for the experimental phase. But, the start of the experimental phase was severely delayed by the COVID-19 lockdown and the subsequent restrictions on close contact. This was particularly difficult for research into pronunciation as it requires subjects and the researcher to remove masks for the recording of articulation, and for demonstration purposes. Therefore, we extend the research period into AY2023. With the lifting of mask restrictions, we tried recruiting subjects for the study, but were unsuccessful in AY2023. At the beginning of AY2024, we recruited some subjects and now expect to complete the experimental and analysis phases by the middle of AY2024, and plan to have a paper ready by the end of 2024.

Current Status of Research Progress
Current Status of Research Progress

4: Progress in research has been delayed.

Reason

As noted above, the experimental phase was delayed due to the COVID-19 lockdown and the subsequent restrictions on close contact and the use of masks. We have now recruited some subjects and are beginning the experimental phase.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

We are beginning the experimental phase, and expect to complete the experimental and analysis phases by the middle of AY2024, and plan to have a paper ready by the end of 2024.

Causes of Carryover

Delay due to Covid-19.
