Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
PI Govorounova has continued developing an OCW on bioethics with the help of professional web developers. She has upgraded her trial courses on bioethics using her students' feedback. She conducted a series of workshops with her undergraduate science and medical students on “Human Significance,” “The Future of AI and Human Interaction” and “The Bioethics of Genetic Engineering and Mind-Machine Interfaces.” Her students designed and recorded educational videos, specialized visual aids and other educational materials for later use on the OCW. Govorounova has also continued collecting data on the comparative discourse analysis of scientific rhetoric versus media rhetoric on bioethics.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
4: Progress in research has been delayed.
Reason
The novel coronavirus pandemic has significantly slowed down the progress, since all international and some domestic travel plans, as well as face-to-face debates and mock debates were canceled 2021. As a solution, face-to-face meetings and interviews were temporarily replaced by zoom meetings and workshops in 2021. However, there is a real need to eventually resume face-to-face collaboration with domestic and international experts in bioethics, which is our hope for 2022.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
We will continue customizing and optimizing the OCW with the feedback of our domestic and international collaborators and will concentrate our efforts on preparing the OCW for the final release. We will present our research findings at international and domestic academic conferences and academic journals.
|
Causes of Carryover |
Due to the novel coronavirus pandemic all international travel, most domestic travel and face-to-face human interaction were canceled. The unused amount that had originally been allocated for domestic and international travel in 2021 will be used to cover travel expenses in 2022 in order to proceed with the project when the travel ban is lifted.
