Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Data collection has progressed since the last report. To date we have collected data from 429 students, including 120 who have taken the entire test of 1300 words. The remaining students have taken smaller sections of the test, which has added 24-80 additional responses per test item. Over the first semester of 2024 approximately 40 more students will complete the entire test. Data collection will close in July 2024, at which point we will begin marking the test data and preparing it for analysis.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
The extensions we have been granted have allowed us to collect a sufficient amount of data, and we will still have time left over to complete the analysis and begin writing up the results for submission to a journal.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
Over the summer of 2024, two human raters will score the data in order to ensure inter-rater reliability. Over the fall we will conduct an analysis of the data using the Rasch Measurement program FACETS. Once this is completed and we have answered our initial research question and written up the results, we may conduct additional analyses using a generalized linear model and adding additional variables to analysis, such as measures of lexical diversity for each derivation analyzed.
|
Causes of Carryover |
The novel coronavirus pandemic set back our human data collection by several years. The extensions we have received have allowed us to collect sufficient data for the study. The remaining funds will be used to collect the remainder of the data over the first semester of 2024. By July 2024 we will have ample data, and will begin scoring the data and preparing for analysis.
