Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
We successfully completed two pilot studies which involved student participants completing activities after which they read an article on a computer equipped with eye tracker. Each of these pilot studies involved 20 students. These studies helped us to adapt the reading materials and we then conducted our main study, collecting data from 60 participants. We also conducted follow-up surveys and interviews with these students. We presented at two conferences on the initial findings from the pilot studies and are now preparing to begin analysis on the main data.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
Due to the Novel Coronavirus, the present study is slightly delayed. This is because for two years we were unable to have students attend the eye-tracking part of the study, and thus the pilot and main study had to be delayed significantly. We did however use the initial time to prepare equipment and materials

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
This year we plan to analyze the data collected so far, including eye tracking, survey, and interview data. The latter needs to be transcribed, so we will begin this work too. We also plan to collect more data on reading preferences to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the ways tertiary students read. We will also begin writing up the results into two papers for publication in international journals.
|
Causes of Carryover |
In the next fiscal year, expenses that will be incurred will relate to travel in order to disseminate research findings at conferences and to discuss data analysis with experts in the field.
