Outline of Final Research Achievements |
I conducted a study on the role of women among the Anabaptists (Mennonites and the Amish) who originated in Europe in the early 16th century and migrated to North America after the late 18th century. In the 16th century, Anabaptist women were widely involved in missionary work, prophesying, preaching, managing communal funds as deaconesses, and providing poor relief. Many women also made a mark as brave "martyrs".Various historical sources reveal that, as church structures were established in the 17th and 18th centuries, a male-dominated system emerged. However, the tradition of female deacons persisted among the Mennonites, and there are instances of women playing significant roles in missionary work to remote areas. In the case of the Amish, the right of women to propose candidates for the position of a bishop or a minister is particularly noteworthy.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
