Outline of Annual Research Achievements

The year 2021-22 has been productive for the project, despite no additional publications. Various papers that were drafted in previous years have been under review in journals. For two of the papers journals have 'requested revisions', and while this does not guarantee publication, it is a positive development.
A major development on the EPIC Fail paper is that I have managed to generalize our model further. Previously our model considered only symmetric bidders, but in the most recent iteration we can cover a case with asymmetry. Due to this improvement in our model, the paper requires a thorough rewrite, but we are optimistic that it will be ready for resubmission soon. My other papers have also been revised, some are currently under review, and others will be resubmitted shortly.

Current Status of Research Progress
Current Status of Research Progress

3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.

Reason

Broadly speaking, the research is progressing along the planned lines, albeit more slowly than expected. In part this has been due to journal review turnaround times, combined with substantial revision requests. One revised paper has already been resubmitted and is currently under review at a top-field journal, while the other major revision is still in progress. The revision on the EPIC Fail paper will include a substantial extension of the model, which we hope will make it even more attractive for top general interest journals.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

The plan for future research is in agreement with the orignal outline. In particular, I remain hopeful that after our current thorough rewrite of the EPIC Fail paper, it has a chance of publication in a top general interest journal. Similarly, the other papers that are under revision or review will continue to bre updated & re-submitted, with the aim of pulication in top field journals.

Causes of Carryover

The main reason for the change in planned expenditure pattern is due to the pandemic. According to the original plan, it was my aim to attend
many international conferences and share my research there. However, due to COVID-19, travel has been impossible. Nonetheless, as the global
situation improves, and travel resumes, I aim to use these funds for international travel as soon as it is possible again. Also, as some parts of the research have become more computationally intensive, some of the funds may be used for upgrading computer hardware, and appropriate software purchases.
