Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
FY2020 was the first phase of the research (the Preliminary comprehensive review period). The Principal Investigator (PI) has finished the preliminary stage by completing literature review in relation to the Varieties of Capitalism (VoC), inclusive leadership, Asian values, and CSR. The literature investigation will be continuously pursued throughout FY2021. The PI has presented her preliminary research outcomes in 6 events (3: Academic conferences and 2: professional conferences and events for social impact).By having these processes, the PI could get various feedback from scholars and practitioners, and find out current evidence and changes could be made for the development of the project. For details, please see the section on "Research Presentation".

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
The key goal of FY2020 was to delve into answers on research questions in relation to: 1) Exploration on Asia’s trouble with the theory of Capitalism; and 2) Exploration on Asia’s potential inclusive leadership through CSR. Based on preliminary research, the researcher prepared two research papers: 1) one was submitted to peer-reviews journal (regarding capitalism, R&R process as of May 2021); and the other is under the wrap-up stage for submission (regarding inclusive leadership in times of crisis). The PI was not able to do the field work due to travel bans and plane cancellations as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The PI is ready for the empirical data collection stage, which includes interview with business leaders of 3 nations and is waiting for COVID-19 to end.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
The goal of this exploratory stage is to find the answers on research questions regarding Asian Varieties of Capitalism contexts and CSR dynamics. Once COVID-19 is over, the PI will carry out mixed methods (i.e., extensive interview, observation & participation) in order to secure an in depth understanding of the phenomenon. The PI anticipates valuable findings from the exploratory study including in-depth interviews and conference participations. The investigation will be done not only in three nations (Japan, Korea and India) but also other nations around Asia to see active debates on Asian capitalism, Asian values and Asian CSR.
|
Causes of Carryover |
In 2020, empirical data collection such as interviews was not fully accomplished due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Once COVID-19 ends in 2021, the PI will speed up the collection of related data by visiting around Asia and the globe. She will meet counterparts and collaborators for research discussion and cooperation, and have in-depth interviews and observations. The remaining amounts from FY2020 will be used for that purpose.
