Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The practical and theoretical issues related to the introduction of innovative purchasing activities in retail firms were first examined from the perspective of management regarding the continuous merchandising (MD) improvement of buyers (purchasing managers). This study clarified that buyers' continuous MD improvement is mutually regulated by the internal organization management issue of interdepartmental collaboration and the inter-firm relationship management of managing relationships with suppliers, and that firm outcomes vary depending on this regulated relationship. In particular, we found that the product positioning of private brands (PB), which retailers emphasize at the purchasing stage, is affected by conflicts with the suppliers of these PBs.
