Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
This project conducted a factor analysis on individual survey items to generate the factors for foreign language exposure. Results will indicate how the program goals of study abroad opportunities offered by Japanese university and students’ needs in relation to such programs changing over time.
In this way, the purpose of this research project is to develop a taxonomy and a validated survey tool to determine student perceptions of language learning in relation to experiences abroad. The results, from a sociological perspective, will promote student-centered and cost-effective program development policies, and will also offer students opportunities to achieve increasing levels of global citizenship.

2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
The factor analysis survey including validating the question items in the survey was made in first year. Then the data collection from 1st year university students before an international experience was conducted. Overall, results will indicate how the program goals of study abroad opportunities offered by Japanese university and students’ needs in relation to such programs changing over time.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
A new set of data each following year, over 3 years will be analyzed. The entirety of the data from four years will be collecte d and analyzed to draw comparisons. The experiment design will compare the survey data from the students’ perception from pre, post, and delayed survey for each ye ar, and the data from the oral interviews. The data will finally define how students perceive language learning in reference to international experiences through a compari son of foreign language competence, intercultural competence, and personal qualities.

Covid-19の影響で国内及び海外での学会発表が出来なかったため、次年度に使用する事となった。
