Outline of Final Research Achievements |
As STEM educational materials for fostering manufacturing competency, we focused on the "balance" since it has a simple mechanism, which can be modified to various structures, and it can be evaluated quantitatively the quality of the product. We have developed several educational materials applicable from elementary school students to lifelong education. The main achievements include: i) "Active Learning Balance" for elementary and junior high school students, which allows them to freely design by using long screws; ii) "Original Spring Scale" for junior high school technology classes, which allows students to freely design by combining pre-fabricated parts; iii) "Electronic Reading Device for Spring Scale" using visible light photo-interrupters applying a step-by-step conceptual design, and iv) a "paper balance project" for teacher's license renewal courses.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
