Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The research project is in progress.
Representative rocks samples from ultrahigh-temperature granulites (samples collected previously) are under investigation. Thin-sections have been made and petrography has been done for some samples. Local field survey was done with a slight delay, due to the COVID-19 pandemic but representative samples have been collected and work on these samples is in progress. Zircons within thin-sections from the previously collected samples have been identified, investigated for internal structures, and EBSD analysis are done for some and for others in progress. Data processing and interpretation is on-going.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, restrictions on traveling caused a slight delay in the original plan. However, necessary samples to initiate the work was done in the last fiscal year. Investigation on those newly collected rock samples is in progress. Thin-sections from some of the previously collected samples were prepared and zircons were identified for in-situ EBSD analysis but detailed work particularly isotope analysis have to be done once the traveling restrictions are removed. The isotopic work will be done at other institutes as collaboration, hence, waiting for the normal conditions.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
To achieve the target planned, geological field survey in areas, where high and ultrahigh-temperature metamorphic rocks are exposed, is planned to be conducted during the next fiscal year (summer of 2021).
In addition, rock samples that were collected in the last year field survey will be investigated for detailed petrography, mineral chemistry and zircon EBSD analysis. Furthermore, the EBSD analyzed zircons will be analyzed for U-Pb geochronology to identify the domains that are un-deformed or geologically un-disturbed for geochronology.

Causes of Carryover |
Due to restrictions on travels, we could not take students to field work hence, some an amount of 331922 yen was not used and that will be used in the next fiscal year.
