Outline of Final Research Achievements

In this study, we collected and organized the case of traditional waterside landscape planning from all over the country in order to consider future waterside landscape planning. We grasped the characteristics, history, systems, and issues of each case. In addition, field surveys and measurement, interviews were conducted. The target areas were "waterside villages around Lake Biwa in Shiga Prefecture," "waterside villages in Gujo Hachiman, Gifu Prefecture," "waterside villages in Tsuwano, Shimane Prefecture," "waterside villages in Katada, Mine City, Yamaguchi Prefecture," and "waterside villages in Kumakawa-juku, Fukui Prefecture". As a result, we grasped the various water use systems and ideas for water use in each village, and considered landscape planning.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

近年、多くの伝統的な水辺の景観や、その街を構成する水路や河川などの自然物、住民の暮らしの知恵や技術までも含めて保存・活用していく動きが盛んになってきた。こうした取り組みについては、社会学や政策学の分野などで扱われ、その経緯や手法については詳しく記録されていても、重要な建築物や水路などのハードについての調査記録が極めて少ない。そこで本研究は、我が国における「都市の水辺の景観まちづくり」の事例を収集・整理し、その歴史的背景や制度的背景を把握しながら各事例のフィールド調査を行い、今後の水辺の景観まちづくりに有用な計画論的視座を得るための資料を作成している点で大きな意義がある。
