Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Strong-motion records from more than 2000 earthquakes of magnitudes (Mj) >= 4 recorded at the S-net seafloor stations were analyzed. High-quality records were selected, and site amplification properties at the S-net seafloor sites were evaluated. The linear site amplification properties were examined at all 150 stations of the S-ne using relatively weak-motion records (peak accelerations < 50 cm/s/s). The results and analysis were published in a peer-reviewed international journal of Earth, Planets and Space. Currently, evaluation of the nonlinear site response properties during strong shakings has been ongoing. A paper with the preliminary results of the analysis has been submitted to a journal. The results and analysis were presented in academic meetings and conferences.

2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
The main data analysis and publication of the reviewed papers were completed successfully within the project period. However, for dissemination of the results, presentations in international conferences to be held in later months have been planned. As a result, the research period has been extended for one year.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
Even though the main objective of the planned project was achieved, additional analysis of the data for identification of nonlinear site amplification at the S-net sites and investigation of the three-dimensional attenuation structure of the crust and mantle in the offshore region have been started as a part of future research. Presentations of results at two conferences have been planned in this year.
