Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Samples necessary for this study have been collected during field trips to the study area, and from the sample collection available at Akita. More samples are going to be collected from the field over the next months, which will allow to produce a more complete dataset. The data collection for the project is at present still continuing. The data gathered so far have been collected using the available equipment at Akita University, as well as at international institutions, in cases where special equipment was not available locally. Further analyses will be collected over the next months. This will include mineral analyses (using the electron microprobe at Akita), as well as whole-rock trace element analysis and isotope analyses in overseas institutions and laboratories. Data interpretation is fully underway, and some of the main conclusions of the study are being produced. This interpretation work will continue in every phase of the work, until the completion of the research period. The first paper entirely based on this project is currently under preparation, and is expected to be submitted for review over the next months.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
The work so far has proceeded approximately according to plan, although with some variations compared to expectations. For example, some samples have not yielded the expected results, as they did not contain the expected minerals necessary for the desired analysis. In this case, further sample collection and sample preparation will be attempted over the next months. Positive results were obtained from other samples, which offsets the less positive results.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
In order to complete the necessary data collection, more samples will be collected from the field over the next year and the remainder of the project. At least two trips to the area will be organised this season.
Data collection at Akita will continue as the previous year, including mineral and whole-rock analyses. In addition, a set of samples will be prepared for lead (Pb) isotope analyses and will be sent to an overseas laboratory. A further set of samples will be analysed for age determination. It is expected that the results of such analyses will be completed by the end of the financial year.
One major publication in an international journal is expected to occur either by the end of this financial year, or at the beginning of the next year.

Causes of Carryover |
Some of the sampling could not be done due to corona restrictions.
