Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Peroxiredoxin, belonging to a thiol peroxidase group, is widespread in all biological kingdoms. It has many functions such as anti-oxidation, regulation of oxidation stress, chaperoning, depending on higher-order structures and oxidation states. While peroxiredoxins are structurally homologous, their quaternary structures are variant. In this study, we explored the mechanism which determines various quaternary structures of peroxiredoxins.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
相同性の高い三次構造から異なる四次構造を形成可能な事実は、アミノ酸残基の配置に基づく繊細な分子構造の制御により多様かつ機能的な集合体が得られることを示している。従って、集合の形成メカニズム解明と、その制御法を合わせることで、未知の集合様式の形成や集合・解離に対する応答性の付与に繋がり、制御可能な機能性バイオマテリアルの創製が可能となる。
