Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

トキソプラズマが宿主のオルガネラをリクルートしているという事実は形態学的によく知られた事実であるが、そのリクルートを行う機序や、何故リクルートするのかについてはほとんど何も分かっていない。本研究で得られつつある成果は、トキソプラズマがどのように宿主の細胞小器官を移動させているのか、また感染細胞内でエネルギーや必要な栄養分をどのようにして入手しているのかという感染の一番基本的な部分の理解につながるものと思われる。また、これらの知見は将来的には有効な抗アピコンプレクス門原虫薬開発への足がかりとなることが期待される。
