Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
A method for prediction of dose profiles from PET images for 11C and 15O ion beams were developed. The depth dose was measured for both ion beams with mono-energetic and poly-energetic conditions in the carbon therapy facility of the Heavy Ion Medical Accelerator in Chiba (HIMAC). The PET images were obtained for an irradiated polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) phantom with both beams under the same conditions using a prototype PET system. The results of the mono-energetic beams were used for prediction of the dose profiles for the poly-energetic beams and the predicted dose profiles were in overall good agreement with the measured ones.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
For publication the accuracy and reproducibility of the data are essential. Therefore we are planning to perform more experiments. All experiments should be performed at the carbon therapy facility of the Heavy Ion Medical Accelerator in Chiba (HIMAC) using our prototype PET system and the number of experiments is so limited.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
The development and optimization of the method for prediction of dose profiles are going to be carried out for the measured data of an irradiated PMMA phantom with 12C ion beam and radioactive ion beams of 11C with SOBP.
|
Causes of Carryover |
