Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Various attempts have been made to construct a training system for surgeons. One was a method to objectively evaluate the suture outcomes in artificial vessel suturing. Next, we created a training system for endovascular treatment, using catheter track paths as an objective measure of proficiency. We also examined suture movements objectively and quantitatively using Leap Motion, a motion controller capable of 3D real-time tracking of the hand.
We recruited medical students to skilled trainees who had been post-graduates for more than 15 years. In each of the above cases, a steep learning curve was observed with training time, and it was shown that a medical student who was a complete novice at 10 hours was able to produce a score close to that of a vascular surgeon.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
外科医のトレーニングはどのようなものをどのくらいの時間行うべきか。その答えはいままでなかった。今回様々なトレーニング方法とその成果の客観的評価を示すことができた。現在心臓血管外科専門医認定機構によって義務とされているトレーニング時間は30時間であるが、多忙な外科医にとって過大な負荷となっている。今回の10時間での高い成果を考慮し、この時間を減らす説得力のある根拠となると考えている。
