Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Adipocytokines secreted by mast cells are known to be associated with obesity. C1q/tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-related protein (CTRP) was identified, and 15 types of the CTRP family have been discovered. Some of these have been reported to have adiponectin-like effects and have protective effects against type 2 diabetes and inflammation. It was reported that CTRP3 is protein a recently discovered is involved in bone metabolism (old bone is destroyed by osteoclasts, and osteoblasts repair the destroyed area and regenerate it into new bone). Therefore, we investigated whether CTRP3 is related to bone mineral density and is a factor that influences fractures in community-dwelling men. The results showed that the higher level of serum CTRP3 tended to the lower level of serum osteocalcin and TRACP-5b, which are indicators of bone metabolism. However, no relationship was found between lumbar vertebral BMD and femoral BMD, and it was not shown to predict the occurrence of new fractures.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
