Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In order to understand the pathophysiology of tendon attachment injuries, which are the site of sports injuries, the flexor hallucis longus tendon running behind the ankle joint, which has been previously unidentified, was clarified its anatomy and the surrounding tissues. Although there were no differences in positional relationship with other tissues, there were differences in size depending on gender and body size. We examined the effects of calf raises, a common exercise therapy for Achilles tendon disorders, and showed that even low-intensity exercises improved muscle strength, circumferential diameter, and extensibility. We also compared the effects of a newly training exercise for the intrinsic muscles of the foot (abductor hallucis muscle) with those of conventional exercises, and showed that this new exercise was more effectively in training the abductor hallucis muscle.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
