Outline of Final Research Achievements

In this research project, we aimed to suppress smartphone usage by enhancing users' motivation to limit their use through notifications that incorporate anthropomorphic expressions and a competitive framework. Initially, we focused on the effects of anthropomorphic expressions. We compared messages from anthropomorphic characters that conveyed positive and negative attitudes, to test whether these differences could influence users' awareness and usage time of smartphones. Next, regarding the competitive framework, we developed and evaluated a mechanism that presents users with increases or decreases in the anthropomorphic character's vitality points based on their smartphone usage, along with corresponding changes in the character's condition, to enhance their motivation to reduce smartphone usage.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

スマートフォンの過度な利用は大きな問題であるとされ、その解決策が求められている。特にCOVID-19以降、多くのサービスがオンライン化され、スマートフォンの利用機会が増加している。しかし、現在の強制的な制限や警告は、これらのサービスへのアクセス機会を奪う可能性がある。本研究課題では、強制ではなく利用者自身の意志でスマートフォンの利用を控える仕組みを提案し、その可能性を示した。このアプローチは、必要なオンラインサービスへのアクセスを妨げることなく、過度な利用を解決する糸口となると考えられる。
