Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
My research on Diego Collado has successfully achieved two main objectives, despite the impact of the coronavirus in the first year of the project. Firstly, archival research in Spanish and Italian libraries and archives has been extremely fruitful. Not only have I discovered several previously unknown works authored by Collado, some of which are autographed, but I have also found important documents about the relationships between religious orders in the evangelization of Japan and the state of Christianity at the end of the Christian Century in Japan. The second objective has been the production of critical editions of most of Collado's works, which are either in press or in the final stages of preparation. As a result of this research, I have co-authored one book and published seven articles. Additionally, I have presented the findings of my research at twelve international conferences in Japan and Europe. My future research project involves composing a biography of Diego Collado as a pivotal figure in the context of the 17th century's first globalization.
