Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Due to the pandemic I was unable to travel abroad or participate in academic conferences as planned. However, I did continue to publish articles in support of my first book in "Tokyo Review" and "The Los Angeles Review of Books." In addition, I reviewed Chinese science fiction writer Liu Cixin's novel "The Three Body Problem" in the journal "Kyoto Review."

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
Due the coronavirus pandemic, many international academic conferences have been cancelled. In addition, because of travel restrictions I have been unable to do archival work as planned.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
This spring I will present via live stream on the utopian possibilities revealed by Kenji Miyazawa's regional literary works at the 11th Asian Conference on Cultural Studies (ACCS2021). This summer, I hope to begin doing archival research on the works of Ursula Le Guin at the University of Oregon in the United States. In the fall, I hope to make further presentations, depending on the state of the pandemic.

Causes of Carryover |
Due to the pandemic I was unable to travel abroad to attend academic conferences and do archival research as planned. As a result, I would the remainder of the funding from this year to be carried over into the next year, when I am hoping to be able to travel and conduct this research.
