Outline of Annual Research Achievements

2021年度は、熱帯の都市性降水のメカニズム解明の研究を続けた。メカニズムの解明に加え地球温暖化の進行下、熱帯都市の極端降水がどう変化するかについて研究を行った。都市降水に関連する都市ヒートアイランド等の都市効果の研究も行った。2021年度の経費は、主に上記の研究を遂行するためのデータ解析のアルバイト人件費に充てられた。
・研究成果を国際共著の査読つき論文と学会発表で発表した。査読つき論文はアメリカ地球物理学連合(AGU)や英国王立気象学会(RMS)等の雑誌を含め複数のメジャー学術論文誌に掲載された。学会発表はAGUの秋季大会やアジア・オセアニア地球科学連合(AOGS)の大会で行った。
・AGU Earth's Future に掲載された論文は、シンガポールを対象とし、地球温暖化下の都市極端降水の将来変化、いわゆる極端降水のニューノーマルの定義、について研究した。具体的に、擬似温暖化手法を用いて、高性能計算機で、長期間気候予測シミュレーションを行った。計算結果を観測データと比較し、モデル精度を確認した。将来の都市極端降水において EGME(Extreme gets more extreme)パラダイムが明らかになった。つまり、現在の大雨が平均の変化よりさらに深刻になる可能性があり、このことは、都市防災に対して大きな意味がある。さらに、極端降水の変化を説明する大気の物理過程と都市効果の相互作用について研究した。

Reason

海外共同研究者(特に米国国立大気研究センターNCAR、シンガポール国立等)の協力のおかげで、研究解析に使う計算が早く終わり、データ解析が当初計画より早く進んだ。論文執筆の際、共著者の協力のおかげで、早く完成でき、査読も順調にいった。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

今後の計画は昨年度の研究成果を踏まえ、さらに解析を行い、熱帯極端降水について、気候の側面からイベントの側面まで解析を行う予定。そして、違う気候帯の東京の事例を加え、深く議論する。研究結果を昨年度と同様にアメリカ地球物理学連合や英国王立気象学会の雑誌に投稿する予定。

Causes of Carryover

コロナウイルスの感染拡大の影響を受け、計画していた現地調査のためのシンガポール出張が出来なかったため、2022年度使用が生じた。2022年度は、数値計算データの処理・解析等が必要となるので、研究補助の雇用に使いたい。データ解析用のコンピューターと データの保存のためにハードディスクを購入する必要がある。アメリカの気象学会の大会に参加するための旅費が必要となる。
