Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In the early stage of the project, research has focused on literature review (mainly Russian and English) as originally planned to organise the existing arguments on China-Russia relations and construct a clear-cut analytical framework, which is to be employed to evaluate the long-term relations between China and Russia. Empirical analysis has focused on China-Russia relations in South-East Asia, with a particular focus on the region surrounding the South China Sea. Analysis has been focused on China-Russia relations through the lens of Russia’s activities in Southeast Asia. Specifically, Russia's involvements in Vietnam was analysed, as well as China-Russia interaction surrounding the South China Sea, seeking to examine how the “comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for a new era” between China and Russia unfolds in the region surrounding the South China Sea and beyond.
