Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
This past year the research has focused on two aspects: (1) state-level analysis of bilateral relations, mainly taking a case study of China's approach to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. A paper has been accepted to be presented at the International Political Science Conference in July. Comparative analysis of bilateral relations as officially defined by the two state leaders has been conducted. (2) state- and sub-state level analysis of bilateral relations. So far, mainly focusing on Russian-language resources, analysis analysis has been conducted to identify major issues between the two countries that might weaken bilateral relation. Analysis at the state level, mainly China's approach to war in Ukraine suggest that strategic objectives override any other obstacles in bilateral relations.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
4: Progress in research has been delayed.
Reason
A leave of absence in the previous year delayed the research. And it was further delayed, as various adjustments had to be made considering the actual development, that is the war in Ukraine. It had a great effect on the data and cases available for the study.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
Now the major focus is on the paper to be presented at IPSA Congress in July, as still some data collection has to be finalised and analysis completed. The next step will be a research paper surveying obstacles in bilateral relations. Among these issues, several problems will be analysed more in depth in moving towards a comprehensive framework of China-Russia relations.
