Outline of Final Research Achievements

We examined what kind of mental states adults and children attribute to a humanoid robot and a communication robot based on their appearance in photos or actions in videos. The results revealed that adults were more likely to attribute positive mental states to robots when watching videos of them in action compared to merely seeing photos. Conversely, children showed no significant difference in mental states attribution towards robots based on photos or videos. However, their perception of whether communication robot was alive was influenced by watching videos.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

これまでの研究では，ロボットの外見がヒトに近いほど，ロボットに心を帰属しやすいことが明らかになっていた。本研究は，成人は，ロボットの外見がヒトに近いほど，成人に特徴的とされるヒトのネガティブな側面に関する心を帰属しやすく，外見がシンプルなほど、幼児に特徴的とされるヒトのポジティブな側面に関する心を帰属しやすくなるという知見を提供することで，より詳細なロボットへの心の帰属傾向を明らかにすることで学術的意義があったと言える。また，本研究の知見は，社会におけるロボットの活用に関しても，ロボットのどのような外見と動作がポジティブな印象を与えやすいかの手がかりともなり，社会的意義もあったと言える。
