Outline of Annual Research Achievements

Quantum liquid-like states of matter have been realized in an ongoing series of experiments with ultracold Bose gases. By means of analytical and theoretical methods we identify the specific criteria for the existence of dark solitons in beyond-mean-field condensates, revealing how these excitations exist for both repulsive and attractive interactions, the latter leading to dark quantum droplets with properties intermediate between a dark soliton and a quantum droplet. The dark quantum droplet's physical characteristics are investigated, including calculation of the integrals of motion, revealing their sensitive dependence on physical parameters relevant to the current generation of experiments with quantum gases in the beyond-mean-field limit.

Reason

I have been able to publish two papers. One is

M Edmonds, arXiv preprint arXiv:2209.00790. This paper is accepted for publication in Phys. Rev. Research.
The other is
Quantum vacuum, rotation, and nonlinear fields, A Flachi, M Edmonds, Physical Review D 107 (2), 025008

Strategy for Future Research Activity

I will develop our results to more general cases. In particular, for the first one in the above, there are many directions as discussed there.

Causes of Carryover

Because of corona virus, I could not use the grant for travels.
At least, I will pay for publication charge for arXiv preprint arXiv:2209.00790
accepted for publication in Phys. Rev. Research.
I may also use the grant for academic travels which are now under consideration.
