Research Project

Project/Area Number 20K15251
Research InstitutionNational Institute for Materials Science

Principal Investigator

メン ウェンジン  国立研究開発法人物質・材料研究機構, 高分子・バイオ材料研究センター, 研究員 (30838470)

Project Period (FY) 2020-04-01 – 2025-03-31
Keywordsorganic synthesis
Outline of Annual Research Achievements

We have gained a better understanding of the overall synthetic process used to create asymmetric catenanes. The yield of the desired catenane molecule is influenced by the electronic properties of the reactants.

The crystal structure of an asymmetric catenane ligand was obtained. Structural disorder was observed, suggesting a diverse packing in the solid state due to the molecule's asymmetric property.

Current Status of Research Progress
Current Status of Research Progress

4: Progress in research has been delayed.

Reason

The synthesis of catenane ligands is challenging in its own right. It took time to optimize the reaction condition and understand how the new molecules packed in the solid state.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

New ligands will be designed in order to reduce the disordered packing in the solid state.

Causes of Carryover

The synthetic work takes time and is challenging. As a result, the progress of the project is slow. The remaining funding will be used to continue the project.
