Outline of Final Research Achievements

Recent studies have revealed that myocytes secrete various bioactive molecules, which are called as myokines. These secreted molecules act not only on neighboring cells but also distant organs. Studies also revealed that aging affects the secretome. In this study, we studied how bicarbonate affects intracellular singling and secretion and how cellular senescence affects secretome.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

心臓や肝臓などの体内の各臓器は、それ自身だけでなく他の臓器にも影響を与えながら生体恒常性の維持に寄与している。本研究成果により、筋肉が遠隔臓器に与える影響やその加齢による変化についてのin vitroの基礎的治験が得られた。これらの成果を生体に応用することで、多臓器連関や老化による影響の解明に役立つと期待される。
