Outline of Annual Research Achievements

This year, we added single-cell ATAC-seq data of 50-week-old mice and merged with previous data of 3-week-old and 20-week-old mice. Then, we analyzed the chromatin accessibility regions that are wholly close in 3-week-old stem cells but open in a small amount of stem cells in adult and aged mice. We considered these regions as age-associated detrimental chromatin regions that should remain close, otherwise causing pathogenic risks. On the contrary, we also picked up chromatin regions that are open in a small proportion of stem cells in 3-week-old mice but close wholly in adult and aged mice. These regions reflect a diversity in 3-week-old stem cells, possibly representing the epigenetic plasticity in youth.
