Outline of Final Research Achievements

Chronic endometritis (CE) is a condition that causes implantation failure. Immune cells in the endometrium play an important role in implantation. I investigated the distribution of a subgroup of helper T cells (Th cells), a type of immune cells, in the human implantation endometrium and their influence on the pathogenesis of CE.
The analysis showed that the CE group had significantly more Th1 cells and fewer Th2 cells than the non-CE group. In addition, Th1 cells increased and Th2 cells decreased as the number of plasma cells appearing in CE increased. Furthermore, fluorescent immunostaining of the endometrium revealed that CD4-positive Th cells significantly congregated around the plasma cells. Thus, it was suggested that CE may be involved in implantation failure by causing fluctuations in Th cells.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
