Outline of Final Research Achievements

This study established a new method for purifying a hybrid recombinant protein (hybrid recombinant PP) that has the functional domains of two proteins, Phosphophoryn (PP) and Dentin Matrix Protein-1 (DMP-1), contained in dentin.
In addition, the hybrid recombinant PP had cell adhesion activity and anti-inflammatory activity, and showed a tendency to promote ectopic bone formation in a model of ectopic bone formation induced by BMP-2.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

深在性齲蝕による細菌感染や偶発露髄が生じ外部からの刺激に曝露されることによって炎症を起こした歯髄組織において、本研究によって示されたハイブリット組み換えPPのもつ細胞接着活性、抗炎症機能活性および硬組織誘導機能活性等の細胞制御機能を応用することによって歯髄組織の消炎および露髄面に象牙芽細胞を呼び込み被蓋硬組織の形成を促進し外部からの刺激遮断することで歯髄保存を可能とする新たな歯髄保存療法の可能性が示唆された。
