Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
This research focuses on jointing control of data storing, routing, and coding on edge-clouds with a good balance of reliability, goodput, latency, and energy-efficiency over various types of heterogeneous networks. In particular, we investigated the network congestion in IoT environments and proposed the dynamic adaptation TCP/NC gateway, which can establish the tunnel between the suitable pair of gateways dynamically based on the network status. We also studied and did the experiments of the hypercube network on the new simulation tool of Mininet. It is the premise for the next stage of the research of Hypercube overlay topology on Mininet/OpenFlow to use for TCP/NC tunneling to improve the transmission performance of the IoT networks.

3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
I have to study the new simulation tools (Mininet, Ryu, OpenFlow) and new programing language (Python); thus, the process is slightly delayed to the registered progress. However, based on our result from the first fiscal year, I can speed up the progress in the next fiscal year. Besides, the working progress is partly affected by the Covid-19's pandemic.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
In the first four months of the 2021 fiscal year, I will focus on implementing the TCP/NC-based intelligent gateway in the IoT networks, e.g., edge cloud, to improve the transmission performance of the network. In the next six months, I will focus on improving and implement the network monitoring and measurement functions to provide the network parameter to the intelligent gateways. And I will propose the enhanced intelligent gateway, which can adapt (e.g., change the network coding parameters) to the changed network status. In the last two months, I will focus on building the complete model of edge cloud with the TCP/NC-based intelligent gateway as the center to improve the overall performance of the network system.

Causes of Carryover |
I want to use the remaining budget of the last fiscal year for publication purposes and attend some academic meetings and conferences in this fiscal year.
