Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In this study, I defined the “imagination margin” as the room where users can intervene when using a product. I hypothesized that the appropriate design of such margins would bring about the “benefits of inconvenience" that are well-known for the new value that replaces convenience. I verified the hypothesis by designing and evaluating a product with the “imagination margin.” As a result, we confirmed the validity of the hypothesis by the fact that the product designed by the method won some prizes in design competitions. Some movements in Japan such as the "Retro Boom", and the "Teineina-Kurashi" can be considered a reaction to the excessive pursuit of convenience. The design method I defined will be able to bring essentially richer living to modern humans.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
