Outline of Annual Research Achievements

宇宙線加速機構の一つと考えられている磁気リコネクションでは、プラズマアウトフローの流速度が磁場強度に比例するアルフベン速度vAまで加速され、強磁場プラズマ中ではvA がほぼ光速となるため、相対論的なリコネクションによる粒子加速がおこる。この相対論的磁気リコネクションの基礎実験を行った。高出力レーザーをニッケル製のキャパシタコイルターゲット (CCT) に照射する事により、2 枚の電極間で高速電子の発生に伴う電位差が生じ、電極間に接続したコイル部に電流が流れkT 級の準定常強磁場が生成される。実験では、数Torr以下の水素および窒素の雰囲気ガス中で激光XII号レーザービームを2つのCCTに照射して反平行磁場を生成し、磁気リコネクションを発生させ、加速されたガスイオンのアウトフローエネルギースペクトルをトムソンパラボラとCR-39スタックを用いて計測した。また、生成された磁場の時間発展を磁気プローブで、プラズマのダイナミクスを光学計測と協同トムソン散乱計測で調べた。
臨界密度程度のプラズマに高強度レーザーを入射することにより、高速電子流とそれを中性化する帰還電流によって対向流を生成し、励起されるワイベル不安定性 (WI) によって数 10 kT の自己生成乱流磁場を発生させる。荷電粒子がこの乱流磁場のリコネクションによって発生したプラズマアウトフローと衝突することによって加速される。この乱流磁気島による荷電粒子の相対論的磁気リコネクション加速を世界に先駆けて研究する。本年は、WIによって生成されるフィラメント構造の時間・空間発展をXFELを用いたX線小角散乱 (SAXS) によって計測するための基礎実験として、理化学研究所の高強度レーザーを直径 0.5 um、間隔 1.0 umのロッド集合体ターゲットに照射し、SAXSによってプラズマ膨張にともなうスペクトルの時間発展を計測した

Reason

激光XII号レーザーと2つのキャパシタコイルターゲットを用いたkT級の準定常強磁場中の磁気リコネクション実験では、トムソンパラボラを用いた加速されたイオンのエネルギー計測を行った。また、PICシミュレーションコードを開発し、磁場や加速イオンスペクトルの時間発展を求め、実験結果との比較・検討を行う準備を進めている。
高強度レーザーを用いた乱流磁気島による荷電粒子の磁気リコネクション加速実験では、高強度レーザーを用いてワイベル不安定性を励起し、生成される乱流フィラメント構造の時間・空間発展をXFELを用いたX線小角散乱 (SAXS) によって計測するための基礎実験を行った。2018年度に初めて共用実験に提供された理化学研究所の高強度レーザーをロッド集合体ターゲットに照射し、SAXSによってプラズマ膨張にともなうスペクトルの時間発展を計測した。得られた結果を、シミュレーションによって得られたスペクトルと比較・検討することによって、プラズマのダイナミクスを明らかにする。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

kT級の準定常強磁場中の磁気リコネクション実験では、これまでに得られた加速イオンのスペクトル、磁気プローブで計測した磁場の時間発展、光学計測と協同トムソン散乱計測で得られたプラズマのダイナミクス、等の詳細な解析を進め、外部磁場中でのPICシミュレーションとの比較・検討を行う。これらの結果を用いて、実験条件の最適化を行い、中国上海光机所の神光IIレーザーを用いたリコネクション実験を行う。
高強度レーザーを用いた乱流磁気島による荷電粒子の磁気リコネクション加速実験ではインド タタ基礎物理研究所のTIFR500TWレーザー、または、理化学研究所の高強度レーザーを薄膜ターゲットに照射する事によってワイベル不安定性を励起する。生成される乱流磁場およびフィラメント構造の詳細な時間・空間発展を、それぞれプロープレーザーによるコットン・ムートン計測(TIFR500TW)、または、X線自由電子レーザーを用いたX線小角散乱(理化学研究所)によって計測する。
