| Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
イギリスに保管されている19世紀のイギリス海軍の航海日誌を研究協力者のClive Wilkinsonと調査し、日本周辺を航行した船舶を抽出した。このうちイギリス水路部とイギリス公文書館に保管されている168航海を撮影し、資料を収集した。また、研究協力者のRob Allanの協力でイギリス気象庁に保管されているイギリス海軍の航海日誌のうち、東アジアや東南アジアを航行した391航海を収集した。イギリス海軍の12航海の航海日誌に記載された気象データのデジタル化を行った。航海日誌の気象データの解析から薩英戦争時の1863年8月15－16日に九州の西を北上する台風の存在が明らかとなった。この台風に関する記録は見つかっていない。今後この台風が薩英戦争の戦況にどのような影響を与えたのか、調査する必要がある。分担者の塚原東吾がオランダ公文書館にオランダ海軍の航海日誌が所蔵されているのを確認し、研究協力者のAlice de Jongと調査を開始した。研究協力者のRob Allan博士が代表を務める国際的なデータレスキュー活動Atmospheric Circulation Reconstructions over the Earth(ACRE)に関する国際会議を日本に招致し、2018年11月12日‐16日に首都大学東京で開催した。各国のデータレスキューに関する研究者が出席した。国内のデータレスキューの研究者を束ねた、国際的なデータレスキューの枠組みであるACRE-Japanに関するセッションも立ち上げ、海外の研究者に広く国内の取り組みを紹介した。2018年11月17日には国際シンポジウム「歴史の中の気候 気候の中の歴史」を東京大学で開催し、データレスキューの気象、気候研究と歴史学の研究との接点を考える研究交流を行った。また、2019年4月8‐12日にアルゼンチンのブエノスアイレスで開催されたACREに関する国際会議に出席し、各国のデータレスキューに関する研究者と研究交流を行った。

Reason
本研究課題である外国船の航海日誌を用いて江戸時代の気候を明らかにする研究では、海外に所蔵されている航海日誌の収集が欠かせない。19世紀に日本近海を航行したアメリカ、イギリス、オランダの軍艦の航海日誌を研究分担者、研究協力者と協力して調べて所在を明らかにし、まずはイギリス海軍の航海日誌の撮影を行い、計画通り収集を開始した。

研究協力者のClive Wilkinsonとイギリス水路部とイギリス公文書館に保管されている19世紀のイギリス海軍の航海日誌の収集を進める。収集したイギリス海軍の航海日誌のうち、薩英戦争や下関戦争に参戦した船舶を中心に気象データのデジタル化を実施する。オランダ公文書館に所蔵されているオランダ海軍の航海日誌の調査を進め、今後収集を進めていく。
