Exploration of thermal conductivity switching material with periodic nano-structure transition

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

昨年度に層状SnSeと岩塩型PbSeの固溶体(Pb1-xSnx)Seの高密度バルク焼結体を合成し、相境界組成に調整した(Pb0.5Sn0.5)Seが温度変化によって2D層状構造から3D岩塩型構造へ可逆的に構造転移し、ナノ周期構造を変調させることに成功した。今年度は、(Pb0.5Sn0.5)Seバルク焼結体の熱伝導率の温度変化を系統的に評価した。作製直後の試料を室温から350℃に昇温すると2D構造から3D構造へ変化し、熱伝導率が3.3倍に増加した。一方、高温から100℃以下の低温に冷却すると3D構造から2D構造へ変化し、熱伝導率が急激に減少して熱伝導率を可逆的に変調させることに成功した。構造転移に伴う熱伝導率変化の起源を解明するために、電子による熱伝導率(κele.)と格子振動による熱伝導率(κlat.)の温度変化をそれぞれ調べた。昇温による2D構造から3D構造への転移により、半導体の電子構造からバンドギャップの潰れた金属の電子構造へ変化することで、電気伝導度とκele.が6桁も変化することが分かった。昇温時の2D構造相と降温時の3D構造相について100℃ におけるκlat.を比べたところ、2D構造相のκlat.が1/3になっていることが分かった。第一原理フォノン計算から2D構造の層構造が強くフォノンを散乱するため、3D構造から2D構造へ変化する際にκlat.が大きく減少したことを明らかにした。以上のことから、(Pb0.5Sn0.5)Se固溶体の2D-3D構造転移によって、κele.とκlat.を同時に大きく変化させることができ、大きな熱伝導率変化が実現されたことが分かった。本研究成果はAdvanced Electronic Materials誌に出版され、日経産業新聞等で報道された。
