| Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
This research project has initially two goals. First, prepare a research paper which analyzes the effect of the high quality education over democracy indicators at country level. Second, prepare a research paper which studies the effect of the high quality education over democracy at subnational level.
Regarding the first goal, the research paper is completed as expected and submitted to an international journal for publishing purpose. Currently we are waiting for their decision. In particular, this research paper analyzes the potential impact of educational quality at the tertiary level on the main indicators of democracy. Specifically, we use data on the geolocation of more than 30,000 universities worldwide, university quality rankings, and international democracy indicators to investigate the impacts of higher education over democracy at country level. Additionally to the primary expected analysis, we are investigating whether there are possible spatial externalities across countries. In other words, we look for the possibility that democracy in a country is affected by democracy in their neighbors. This effect complements the potential impact of education quality over democracy.
Regarding the second goal, we face a significant deal due to two main reasons: first, the dataset at subnational level seems to lack of proper indicators about democracy; therefore, we are working on alternatives. Second, due to pandemic issues the communication between Principal Researcher and Research Assistant faced some problems and now we are working with a new RA.

Reason
The second paper is trying to investigate the impact of high quality education at subnational level. For this purpose, we required two datasets. First, education dataset, which is already completed and geolocated. Second, democracy dataset at subnational level; currently we have data only about parties across countries but there is no information at the subnational level in this regard. Therefore, we are facing trouble to match the data; for this reason we are taking the action of slightly modify our original research goals toward analyze the effect of high quality education over election quality results at country level.
The second reason of the delay of this projects is due to communication trouble between the Principal Researcher and Research Assistant. During the pandemic the last months of 2021 and the beginning of 2022, the pandemic made the communication harder and the database analyze was affected. To correct this issue, we decided to work with a new RA during since May and we are currently working on the dataset.

| Strategy for Future Research Activity |
With the objective of complete our research, the research agenda is composed by the following activities:
1. Complete the data collection at party level within countries.
2. Prepare the whole data, including covariates to perform the econometric analysis.
3. Prepare the main document inputs such as literature review and econometric results.
4. Write the second paper and submit it to international journals.
