Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Regarding theoretical research, in addition to reviewing prior studies, we examined the institutional maintenance process. The review of prior studies clarified both the achievements (discovery of institutional maintenance phenomena) and the limitations (why/how institutional maintenance occurs) of earlier research.
As a result of the theoretical research and case analysis, we elucidated the process and mechanisms through which institutional maintenance occurs. We also discussed societal instability as a prerequisite for the institutional maintenance process. Societal instability refers to the difficulty in achieving common understanding among organizations regarding institutionalized practices (institutions) due to new practices (social pressures). Consequently, even if new practices temporarily trend and spread when society becomes unstable, a regressive change leading back to existing institutions occurs.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
