Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In the frame of the project, metagenomes of several mealybug species have been sequenced. Genomes of their endosymbiotic bacteria were closed into circular molecules, annotated, and analyzed with comparative genomics methods. Tissue samples from the same species were prepared for microscopy (FISH).

Current Status of Research Progress
1: Research has progressed more than it was originally planned.
Reason
All samples submitted for genome sequencing worked on the first try and enough data was generated for all symbionts. My conservative plan was that some of the species might need optimization of protocols which tends to be time consuming, but no such troubleshooting was needed.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
Additional samples will be processed and submitted for sequencing in mid-2021. Finishing all the genomics analyses sooner than planned will allow me to focus mostly on microscopic localization of the newly detected symbionts in the second year of the project.
|
Causes of Carryover |
Illumina sequencing costs are charged for a sequencing lane at our sequencing facility, so multiple samples have to be pooled together in order to fill the lane.
