Outline of Final Research Achievements

In general, benign colorectal tumor(adenoma) progresses to malignant colorectal tumor(carcinoma). Nevertheless, how colorectal tumor interacts between fibroblasts around it. Therefore, we studied the interaction of tumor and fibroblasts and revealed that a molecule in the interstitinum affects the tumor progression.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

良性の大腸ポリープがどのように大腸癌に進行していくのかについて、ポリープ周囲に存在する間質と呼ばれる構造とどのように作用し合っているのかを検討し、その過程において何らかの役割を果たしている可能性のある分子を見出した。
大腸癌の内視鏡治療は進歩しているが、早期癌で内視鏡治療を受けるも、癌がやや深く進展している場合には追加で手術することもあり、体にとって負担になり得る。その判断にあたっては、様々な要素を勘案してになるが、今回の分子がその判断ツールの一助となり、不要な追加外科手術を回避することに有用な要素となる可能性があるものと考えられる。
