Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
This was an international survey to examine how long-term care facilities worldwide responded to the COVID-19 pandemic. We successfully collected data from 212 managers and 2,143 staff working at 223 long-term care facilities in 13 countries/regions, including Japan. The results showed that: (i) prepandemic preparedness (such as education on infection control, etc.) significantly shaped long-term care facilities' response to the pandemic, (ii) adequate psychological support to long-term care facilities' staff and residents may mitigate the negative impact of the pandemic, and (iii) about 4 out of every 10 staff members encountered instances of social discrimination during the COVID-19 pandemic.
